First presentation of the book In the Ring of Fire: Defense of Luhansk Airport at the Book Forum in Lviv

On October 4, 2025, the presentation of the English-language edition of the chronicle book In the Ring of Fire: Defense of Luhansk Airport took place at the Book Forum in Lviv. For the first time outside Ukraine, people will learn about the first major battle of the initial stage of the Russo–Ukrainian War – the battle for Luhansk Airport in the spring and summer of 2014.

The expanded and updated English-language edition contains forewords and comments from military personnel who defended the airport and now hold important positions in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as from well-known military experts, scholars, and public figures.

“Together with the entire civilized world, we must create all the conditions to ensure that Russia has no desire, chances, or opportunities to continue this war or start a new one in the future,” said Brigadier General Oleh Apostol, commander of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces and participant in the defense of Luhansk Airport. The quote is on the cover of the English-language edition and, along with other comments from well-known Ukrainians, conveys the main messages that the book’s authors want to convey to the foreign readership.

From the perspective of 2025, the feat of the Ukrainian defenders in the first stage of the war becomes even more striking. And this heroic and instructive story must be conveyed to the world community.

Hundreds of people from all over Ukraine and abroad have joined in supporting the project. However, the big job of spreading this story and the book is still ahead. So, the authors and defenders of Luhansk Airport will be grateful to anyone who joins in distributing the book outside Ukraine.

The presentation was attended by the authors of the book, participants in the defense of Luhansk Airport, friends and colleagues, volunteers and concerned Ukrainians who support the project, as well as many visitors to the Book Forum who learned about the publication for the first time, and foreign guests.
